Recently, I was told that I focus a lot on what will happen next, rather than living in and appreciating the present. I admit this is true... especially lately. It's hard for me to keep my mind from drifting when enduring the winter. I often find myself talking about the next vacation or my plans for the warmer months to come.
I'm quite glad this was brought to my attention. It has helped put some things into perspective (along with my new use of contacts WOOO-WEEE the world is so HD). I decided that although Seattle winter days can be daunting, I need to take advantage of the city I currently call home.
So, last Saturday I went to Capitol Hill to visit a little shop that had captured my attention with their compelling Instagram account @HomesteadSeattle. As expected, the shops aesthetic matched the vibe I got from their account. This place really tickles my fancy. The owners have truly curated an assortment of unique vintage treasures that, when brought together, work to create a current look. I particularly gushed over the stacks of gorgeous Persian and Turkish Rugs in varying sizes and colors, as well as the PLANTS. I found out that they also run an Airbnb out of their home in the Central District that of course fills me with an intense amount of interior design envy.
I was really inspired by the way they not only mixed old with new, but how they used bold prints and texture contrasted by sleek and modern metals. In a way, I realize that's the kind of blend I tried to convey with my look.
My coat is one of my favorite vintage items, found at the infamous Melrose Trading Post I have mentioned in previous posts. It's bold, has texture, and complements way more outfits than I ever thought it could. That's the bold item, as well as the old. Then I add sleek and modern metal with my gold hoops.
Finding subtle comparisons like this in interior design and fashion gets me excited - the influence of progress from every industry and area of the world that results in an individual, desired aesthetic. Ah! This just really gets me giddy.
I never would have made this little connection had I not gone to Homestead Seattle. I'm also not sure I would have actually gone if that comment about being in the present wasn't made to me. I've always known that I like to find things to look forward to, but I didn't realize how much that might be affecting my ability to "live in the moment".
New goal: to try my hardest to really truly be where I am.. right here, right now.
