My friend, Beth, approached me last month with an idea she had for a collaborative studio shoot. Beth moved to Seattle roughly a year ago from Pittsburgh, PA where she had established a wedding photography business. She decided that in order to expand her Seattle business she needed to get out of her comfort zone a little bit. She has since come up with several creative projects to not only build her portfolio with shoots in the area, but also expand her creative network in the city she now calls home.

The main point of this project was to bring young women together who are at the brink of their creative careers. It’s a showcase of talent and drive, if you will. Vanessa Ronquillo did the hair and makeup for the shoot and has a freelance business doing just that. Paulina Castro provided the floral designs and has started a floral studio called Mercado Co. where she specializes in unique custom arrangements inspired by “the markets in Mexico City and the Japanese art of Ikebana”. I modeled and helped with the creative vision/styling of the shoot. All of us, including Beth, have full-time jobs but find it incredibly important to not abandon what it is we have the most passion for.

The excitement and energy during the day was palpable. It’s unlike any other feeling to not only be in my element, but to work with others who are also in theirs.
