The Vintage Advantage

February 12, 2017

It's funny how i'm 100% more likely to have a successful trip to a vintage store when looking for nothing in particular, rather than when i'm on the hunt for a specific thing. But, finding unexpected gems is what I believe to be so incredible about thrifting.

It's definitely not a hobby for all people. Especially if you don't like to shop, or like to shop quickly. I, on the other hand, am pretty slow when it comes to thrift store trips. I love the whole experience. You really never know what you're going to find.. so why not look and touch everything? Oh! and most importantly, you NEVER know how something will look until you put it on your body... so trying on is a must!

That's exactly what my good friend, Beth (who also happens to be a very talented photographer), and I did one Saturday afternoon. We already had a shoot planned at Oddfellows (one of the best little cafe/bars in Seattle) and wanted to get inspired. We went to Lucky Dry Goods in Ballard and rummaged, played dress up, and screeched with excitement when either of us pulled a goodie off the rack.

I ended up picking up two skirts (one i'm wearing in this post and one for my next) and this cute neck tie bandana that I never thought i'd like.. until trying it on that is.

Half of my outfit is vintage. My skirt, hat, bandana, and handbag. It's really fun for me to make outfits out of new and thrifted items.

Besides finding unique pieces - thrifting is a great way to test your creativity, keep an open mind, recycle, and also save you some serious $$$... all while satisfying that constant nagging need to shop. But, that's just me assuming you have the same addiction as I do.
