For me, one of the most beautiful aspects of getting dressed is the fact that my outfit can consist of items with various origins and meanings. This particular look is comprised of some of my absolute favorites that I am very happy I've collected.
The first is a linen dress I found in Portland at the Free People store on 23rd Ave. I was excited to shop on my first trip to Portland (there's NO TAX). Once I saw the FP store I had to go in. Of course I went straight to a measly rack of sale items. Rummaging through I found this gem on the end.. neglected because it had a few buttons missing and a couple loose threads. I didn't even try it on because they sold it to me for so cheap. It fit perfectly and I even wore it out that evening... Yes, a couple buttons still missing haha. But of course I have now sewed them on, clipped the threads, and it's good as new.
Next is this vintage silk beaded bag. I went with a friend of mine to what we thought was a "random neighborhood" here in Seattle just to get AMAZING vegan ice cream cookie sandwiches at The Cookie Counter (No, i'm not vegan - just very lactose intolerant). We hop out of the Uber and our random destination turned out to be a very quaint street (Greenwood Ave in Phinney Ridge) chock-full of thrifting gold-mines. Good Herringbone. Great Prices. One shop called Le Merde had this beaded goodie and I had to get it. I'm starting a collection of vintage clutches... because I have two; apparently now it's a thing.
Ahhh my Chanel Espadrilles. Let's just say working for Nordstrom HQ has its sample sale perks. I originally snagged them for my mom, but I think she knew how badly I wished I had kept these leather bad boys. She re-gifted them back to me for my 21st.
My favorite item of all time is my peace ring. My grandmother gave my mom the original peace ring in the 70s. For years my sister and I had been.. you know.. calling "dibs" on this ring my mom wears daily. Last X-mas my mom had a mold made of the ring and gave my sister and I rings of our own, as well as a pin for my brother. They're our "peaces". I don't take it off.
My other ring I wear daily is a small pearl I bought on Abbott Kinney in Los Angeles. Theres often a group of independent jewelry designers that put up stands in one of the alleyways. I got it there after a fantastic day at the beach.
My necklace was a lovely gift from my aunt. She gets most of her gifts from one of my favorite shops in Culver City, CA. It's called D.L. RHEIN.
My glasses have no story... They're just cute and from Warby Parker ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Can't go wrong with anything that's delicate and gold.
Feel free to share a story behind one of your treasured everyday items in the comments area. I absolutely love to hear the origin of people's favorite pieces!
