I'm so excited! The holidays are right around the corner. Soon I will consume all of the apple pie I physically can without throwing up, watch the LOTR trilogy on a red eye flight back home, and also finally having some places to wear a few fancy things i've had hanging in my closet.
I have a tendency to purchase items that aren't very practical for the everyday life of an average 21 year old.. (it's almost the one year anniversary of my purchase of an ankle length all black silk velvet slip dress. Aritzia is amazing, it was on sale, I'LL FIND SOMEWHERE TO WEAR IT). But, like I just did there- haha- I will always have a reason to justify my impulse buys. I'm sure like most of us, my reason usually is "I'll have it forever."
That's definitely what I told myself when I purchased this velvet wrap dress back in September. I saw it on one of my Zara run-throughs that I make sure I do at least twice a month. I believe Zara does a really good job at making trends feel very obvious to the consumer and I shamelessly enjoy going in and seeing what they've laid out. This trip in particular I remember seeing a lot of metallics and velvets in the front of the store. It became blatant that this was going to be the what's hot for the holidays. Sure enough - the entire store now is shimmery, sequined, velvet, and tulle.
This dress marries the trends in a very subtle way and I just love that about it. The way the light hits the velvet in this shade of gray gives it a sheen that creates an illusion of it being metallic itself. Believe it or not, it was $69.90 - so I brought it home, hung it up, and stared at it for a while.
Luckily enough, this year I actually have a few holiday parties/events on the calendar. I can't wait to wear this out. You know what's the best thing about it? I can eat the copious amounts of apple pie, and subtly loosen those ties to give my belly the room it will need to expand. I stinkin love wrap dresses! Unfortunately this one is sold out, but one of my favorite brands of all time, The Reformation, has a very similar one on their website right now in some beautiful hues.
Cheers to a happy start to the holiday season - whether you're wrapping yourself in some velvet, a loved ones arms, or both if you're lucky ;).
